PE and School Sport Premium

Purpose of the Funding

Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

Vision:

All pupils leaving primary school physically literate and with the knowledge, skills and motivation necessary to equip them for a healthy lifestyle and lifelong participation in physical activity and sport.

Objective:

To achieve self-sustaining improvement in the quality of PE and sport in primary schools. We would expect indicators of such improvements to include:

  • The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – kick-starting healthy active lifestyles.
  • The profile of PE and sport being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement.
  • Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.
  • Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.
  • Increased participation in competitive sport.

How are we using the funding to benefit our children?

  • Hiring qualified sports coaches to provide additional After School Clubs.
  • Continuing to run sports activities in school and increasing pupils’ participation in the Manchester School Games Programme.
  • Continuing to provide a range of sporting activities at lunchtime to increase pupils’ participation in sports.
  • Developing young sports leaders through the sports leaders programme at lunchtime.
  • Offering a wide variety of PE CPD courses to all staff to develop knowledge, skills and understanding in all areas of Physical Education.
  • Auditing PE and school sport equipment and resources and purchasing where necessary to ensure progression of PE can happen.
  • Continuing to run sports activities in school and increasing pupils’ participation in the Manchester School Games Programme – extending to G&T pupils.

In addition to this, the Headteacher is committed to adding additional funding to support PE and school sport:

  • Additional hours for Sports TA’s to work on intervention groups for PE to focus on inclusion, motor and social skills and G&T and to attend a greater number of sports competitions.
  • Additional coaches for breakfast club, lunchtimes and after school to enable all year groups and a greater range of sports activities – since improvement in behaviour, health and well-being have been evidenced from the previous years.
  • Equipment purchased to enable every child to be inspired in PE/school sport and achieve their full potential including Ipad.
  • School Games

We embrace the School Games programme wholeheartedly, not only in terms of participation and competition, but also leadership and advocacy of the programme and the benefits it can bring to all involved.

The senior leadership team believe in the positive impact that PE, School Sport and Physical Activity can have across whole school and into its wider community and therefore is embedded as a thread throughout the schools values, processes and systems.

We are working hard to ensure that ALL student have the opportunity to engage in PESSPA at a level that is appropriate to them, whether it be participating, competing, leading or pupil voice.

We are delighted to have achieved the GOLD Award for the academic year 18/19.
