Year 4 2021 - 2022

Welcome to Year 4!

 

Staffing

There are 3 classes in Year 4; Class 4A, Class 4J and Class 4D.  The teachers are Miss Abrahams (Class 4A), Miss Johnson (Class 4J) and Mr Daly (Class 4D).  The teaching assistants also working with us are; Ms Toft, Miss Sumner, Mrs Richards and Mrs Carter.

 

Autumn Term 1 we are learning about

  • Maths - Addition and Subtraction, Place value of numbers up to 1,000
  • Writing - Character descriptions, Non-Chronological report 
  • Reading - Explain, retrieve, interpret and infer in reading lessons, Reading for pleasure
  • Science - Animals, including humans,  human digestive system, teeth and food chains
  • History -  Ancient Greece - How did the geography of Greece influence the development? How did they influence modern life?
  • Art - Sculpture (Richard Long, Andy Goldsworthy)
  • Religious Education - What we can learn about right and wrong from religion
  • PE - Dance - Routine skills, Man City - Ball skills
  • PSHE - Healthy lifestyles
  • Computing

Autumn Term 2 we are learning about 

  • Maths - Place value of numbers to and beyond 1,000, Perimeter
  • Writing - Setting descriptions, Advertisements
  • Reading - Explain, retrieve, interpret and infer in reading lessons, Reading for pleasure and Fluency - We are using the books Nen and the lonely fisherman by Ian Eagleton and Leon and the Place Between by Angela Mccallister
  • Science - Sound
  • History - Ancient Greece
  • Design Technology - Healthy eating, cutting skills, creating our own sandwich
  • Religious Education - What is it like to be a Hindu in Britain today?
  • PE - Gymnastics: Balances, Man City: Ball skills
  • PSHE - Healthy lifestyles, relationships
  • Computing - Animation, E-Safety
  • Music - Classification of instruments, sound creation

Spring Term 1 We are learning about

  • Maths - Multiplication (3's, 6's, 9's) and the associated division facts
  • Writing - Biographies, Persuasive letters
  • Reading - Explain, retrieve, interpret and infer. Reading for pleasure and fluency
  • Science and Geography - Breathtaking biomes
  • Art - Collage and mixed media
  • Religious education - Why do some people believe life is a journey?
  • PE - Dance, outdoor games
  • PSHE - Healthy lifestyles and relationships 
  • Computing - E-safety
  • Music 

Spring Term 2 We are learning about

  • Maths - Multiplication and division. Co-ordinates
  • Writing - Narrative; adventure story, Poetry
  • Reading - Explain, retrieve, interpret and infer. Reading for pleasure and fluency
  • Science - Science Week 2022, Solids, liquids and gases
  • Geography - Rivers
  • Design Technology - Shell structures
  • PE - Gymnastics, Tennis
  • PSHE - Healthy lifestyles and relationships
  • Computing - Coding
  • Music

Summer Term 1 We are learning about#

  • Maths - Fractions
  • Writing - Writing to inform; Newspaper report, Writing to persuade; Persuasive speech
  • Reading - Explain, retrieve, interpret and infer. Reading for pleasure and fluency
  • Science - Completing observations of our water cycle in a bag experiments
  • Geography - Trip to the River Bollin to study the features of the river
  • Art - Tesselation
  • PE - Gymnastics, Rounders
  • PSHE - Global citizens
  • Computing - Coding
  • Music

Things to remember

  • PE days for 4J are; Monday and Wednesday. Pe days for 4A and 4D are; Monday and Tuesday 
  • Times Table Rockstars, or Purple Mash Multiplication Check - multiplication practice online (Log in details sent home)
  • We encourage children to take books home, to share and read different text types and to enjoy reading and writing at home
