Sunshine Room 2025 - 2026
Welcome to Sunshine Room!
The teachers in Sunshine Room are Mrs Dianne Papatheodorou and on Wednesday morning, Ms Hannah Newton. The teaching assistants working in Sunshine Room are: Ms Clare Flanagan, Ms Sophia Zollner, Ms Pamela Kenny, Ms Omama Boussouar, Ms Natalie Potts-Mcdonough, Ms Susan Wright and Ms Catherine Bryan.
Summer 2 - 2026
Literacy
This term we continue our Seasons topic and will enjoy songs, rhymes stories and activities about summer. We will link this to our learning about healthy eating and base our learning on two stories: Oliver's Vegetables and The Enormous Turnip.
We will develop our communication skills by learning and using new vocabulary and learning to use visuals to support us.
Maths
Practising counting to 20 and learning to count backwards from 20.
Through tasks and puzzles we will improve our fine motor skills, problem solving abilities, spatial awareness. We will practise stacking, sorting, one-to-one correspondence and patterns.
We will practise our subitising using our fingers, dots, pictures and the rekenrek.
We will also be working on our individual maths targets.
Personal, social and emotional development
To help us communicate and manage our feelings, we will continue to use the Zones of Regulation framework
Physical development
We will be: exploring our outdoor environments: the playground, the astro and the forest area, joining in PE and music and movement activities to develop our motor skills and coordination. We will be concentrating on developing our gross and fine motor skills, through pushing and pulling activities and learning to eat with utensils.
Science
Our science topic this term is “Hot and Cold”. We will be learning what hot and cold mean and relating the meaning of the words to the weather, hot and cold places, animals that live in hot and cold places and the things we eat and the clothes we wear when it’s hot or cold.
Communication and language development
We will be: working on our speech and language targets and learning to use symbols, signs and words to communicate our needs. We will develop our language through songs, rhymes, stories and play.
We will continue to develop our phonics knowledge and use it to progress along our reading journeys.
Reminders
Please remember to...
- always bring a spare set of clothes to school. This is in case of messy or water play as well as toileting accidents (also, please label all clothing)
- send in a warm, waterproof coat with your child every day as the weather can change during the day
- during the cold winter weather, please send your child with hats and gloves to keep them extra warm
- make sure your child has a labelled water bottle in school every day to keep them hydrated throughout the day
- provide spare nappies/pull ups and wipes for your child, if they use them.
