Literacy

This term our topic is “Animals” and in Literacy, we will be exploring the story “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxenbury.

• We will be learning the story to music.

• Children will act out each part of the story and practice using positional language such as “over”, “under”, and “through”.

• We will explore the theme of perseverance and the importance of not giving up, even when we face challenges on our bear hunt.

• Rhymes and stories will help us learn about farm animals and the sounds they make.

Mathematics

We will focus on:

• Learning about individual numbers – how they are written and what they mean.

• Subitising with small groups of objects – learning to identify how many objects are in a group without counting them.

Design and Technology – Junk Modelling

We will be joining different materials together to create items related to our learning. One of our fun projects will be making Bear Hunt Binoculars.

Phonics and Early Writing

We will continue forming the letters of the alphabet and recognising the initial sounds in words.

We will also begin to blend sounds to form simple words such as:

• p-i-g

• h-e-n

• c-o-w

• d-u-ck

Physical Development

We will focus on ball skills this term, including:

• Rolling

• Bouncing

• Throwing

• Catching

• Kicking
