Welcome to Year 4!

 

Staffing

There are 2 classes in Year 4; Class 4A and 4S. The teachers are Miss Abrahams Mon-Fri, Ms Hulston Tuesday Am (Class 4A),

In 4S, Miss Sumner teaches Monday-Thursday and Ms Stapleton teaches Tuesday - Friday  The teaching assistants also working with us are: Miss Marina and Mrs Richards.

 

In Autumn Term 1 we are learning about:

  • Maths - Addition and Subtraction, Place value of numbers up to 1,000
  • Writing - Setting description, Non chronological report
  • Reading - Explain, retrieve, interpret and infer in reading lessons, (With the book Gorilla) Reading for pleasure
  • Science - Animals, including humans,  human digestive system, teeth, and food chains
  • History -  Ancient Greece - How did Ancient Greece influence modern life?
  • Geography - Studying the geography of Ancient Greece
  • Art - To show patterns and textures in their work which differentiate tones and begin to overlay colours.
  • Religious Education - What we can learn about right and wrong from religion?
  • PE - Dance - Waltz, Jive, Tango
  • PSHE - School Values, Strengths, Skills, and Interests
  • Computing - Online safety
  • Music: Ancient worlds - Greek 
  • Modern Languages: French

In Autumn Term 2 we are learning about:

  • Maths - Place value of numbers to and beyond 1,000, Perimeter
  • Writing - Setting descriptions, Advertisements
  • Reading - Explain, retrieve, interpret and infer in reading lessons, Reading for pleasure and Fluency
  • Science - Sound
  • History - Ancient Greece continued
  • Design Technology - Healthy eating: design, make and evaluate a simple dish using a heat source
  • Religious Education - Why is Jesus important to some people?
  • PE - Gymnastics: Balances
  • PSHE - Respct
  • Computing - E-Safety
  • Music - World music

In Spring Term 1 We are learning about:

  • Maths - Multiplication (3's, 6's, 9's) and the associated division facts
  • Writing -  Persuasive letters
  • Reading - Explain, retrieve, interpret and infer. Reading for pleasure and fluency
  • Science - Habitats, food chains, and classifying animals
  • Geography - Biomes
  • Art - Paper sculptures
  • Religious education - What is means to be a Christian in Britain today
  • PE - Dance from around the world, outdoor games
  • PSHE - Managing feelings
  • Computing - Spreadsheets and Writing for different audiences
  • Music: The Environment

In Spring Term 2 We are learning about:

  • Maths - Multiplication, and division. Co-ordinates
  • Writing - Narrative; adventure story, Poetry
  • Reading - Explain, retrieve, interpret and infer. Reading for pleasure and fluency
  • Science - Science Week 2022, Solids, liquids, and gases and the water cycle
  • Geography - Rivers
  • Design Technology - Shell structures
  • PE - Gymnastics skills, Tennis
  • Religious Eductaion - Religious Festivals continued
  • PSHE - How do we change and grow?
  • Computing - Coding (2logo)
  • Music: World music
  • Modern Languages: Arabic

In Summer Term 1 We are learning about:

  • Maths - Fractions
  • Writing - Writing to inform - We will be writing instructions.
  • Reading - Explain, retrieve, interpret and infer. Reading for pleasure and fluency
  • Science - Solids, liquids and gasses continued
  • History - The Roman Empire's impact on Britain
  • Art - Drawing light and still life
  • PE - Gymnastics - rolling and travelling, Rounders
  • Religious Education: Why do some people think life is a 'journey'?
  • PSHE - Choices for a better world
  • Computing - Animation
  • Music: Recycling music

In Summer Term 2 We are learning about:

  • Art - People in Action (L.S. Lowry)
  • Science - Electricity
  • Design and Technology - Simple circuits and switches
  • Geography - Compass points and grid references
  • History - The Roman Empire continued
  • P.E: Dance - dance routines
  • Religious Education: Why do some people think life is a 'journey'?
  • Computing: Making Music
  • Music: Communication with music
  • PSHE: Managing risks

Things to remember

  • Times Table Rockstars, or Purple Mash Multiplication Check - multiplication practice online (Log in details will be sent home)
  • We encourage children to take books home, to share and read different text types, and to enjoy reading and writing at home
