We are delighted to announce that we, have achieved the School Games GOLD Mark Award for the 2018/19 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success. Our sporting achievements this year include: - Competing at the School Games Finals for Kurling. - Our young leaders graduating from the Manchester United leadership scheme. - Reaching City Wide finals for Hockey and Football. - Y1 Footballers reaching the finals of the Manchester United tournament. - Offering a wide range of extra-curricular activities. - Promoting a healthy lifestyle through Change 4 Life and the Daily Mile. With many of our children competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible. As part of our application, we were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year. A special thanks to: Mr Carpenter for attending many of the tournaments, over seeing the Leadership Programme and running many of the extra-curricular clubs. Mr Jones and Mr Brown for their long standing contribution to School Sport at Wilbraham, despite them both moving on this year.

Our annual sports day was, once again, a huge success. Seeing every single child trying their absolute best, in every event was fantastic. Congratulations to all the children who won a medal, improved on their result from last year, or simply had fun taking part. Thanks must also go to all the parents/adults who came to show their support. It really does make a difference the the childrens experience. Have a wonderful summer of fun, and remember to keep active! Go an try a sport you have never played, join a club, or just go to the park with friends. See you next year! Over the course of the year we have had 4 children from year 5 training with the Manchester United Foundation to become sports leaders! Last week, after a lot of hard work, they finally graduated at Old Trafford (home of Manchester United Football Club). They are now qualified sports coaches and received their certificates and goody bag in front of many others young leaders and parents!
Setareh and Tianna were also selected to speak to all of the graduates about their experience. They spoke amazingly well and were a credit to the school. Well done to Sammy, Sufyan, Setareh and Tianna for all of your hard work! What a team! Our year 1 boys have been amazing this year! They have already won one Manchester United tournament and got to the finals and semi finals of others. This meant that we were one of the 10 best teams across the whole of Manchester. This qualified us for the huge finals held at the AON training complex in Carrington, the official training ground of Manchester United football club! We were even lucky enough to have our own changing room and walk out onto the pitch to the music used by the professional players. We had to play in a group stage format and came 1st out of 4 teams to qualify for the “Class of 19 Cup” which had only 8 teams involved, we were very unlucky to finish 2nd in this group meaning we missed out on the final but that did put us in the top 4 teams in the whole of Manchester which is a fantastic achievement.
Our amazing new age kurling team!
After winning gold at the kurling competition earlier this year, we were invited back to the Manchester School Games! We took 5 children to a big opening ceremony at the Etihad and then to the Armitage Centre for the finals. We had a great time and they all tried really hard and we are now the 4th best kurling team in Manchester! Amazing Job! |
