Reception Admissions

Wilbraham Primary joined The Aspire Educational Trust with effect from 1st April 2018 and the Trust is now our admissions authority.

We offer 90 Reception places each year for children wanting to join our reception class.  Children who have their fifth birthday between 1st September and 31st August will start in the September before they turn five.

Children’s names are placed on our waiting list and places are allocated by the Local Authority in the following priority order:
  • Looked-After children or children in public care.
  • Children with exceptional medical or social needs.
  • Children who have a brother or sister (living at the same address) already attending the school.
  • Children who live nearest to the school.

To apply for a Reception place you need to contact the Local Authority of Manchester.  You will be asked to complete an application form online for your child and submit it before the deadline for applications.  A late application could result in your child not getting a place at the school of their choice.

To apply for a place in our Reception class you must:
  • complete an Application Form online
  • ensure that your application is submitted before the deadline date.

Applying for a Reception Place
To apply for a Reception place, you need to contact Manchester School Admissions.  You will be asked to complete an application form online for your child and submit it before the deadline for applications.
Applying late means you will have less chance of getting your preferred school and a delay in receiving an offer letter from Manchester School Admission. This is because Manchester School Admissions offer places to on-time applications first, and places at your preferred school may have already been taken by on-time applications.

To apply for a Reception school place, you need to complete an application form from Manchester School Admissions.  You can download the application form by clicking the link below.  We have also included a "Notes of Guidance" help sheet to assist you in completing the admissions form.

If you don't get the place you want
There’s no guarantee that you’ll get a place in the school you put first.  But if you put other schools, and they have places, Manchester School Admissions will offer your child a place at one of those and put you on the waiting lists for your top preferences.

If you don’t get any of your preferences, Manchester School Admissions will offer you the nearest school with places and put you on the waiting lists for all your preferences.

If a school fills all its places, it keeps a waiting list of children who missed out.  Your position on the list changes as children take up places at other schools, move in to Manchester, or move away.

For further information on how waiting lists work, please visit Manchester City Council's website by clicking the link below:

Appeal against a decision
If you think there are special reasons why your child should go to a particular school, you can appeal against the admissions decision.  If you would like further information about School Appeals, please visit Manchester City Councils's website by clicking the link below:
