What an amazing week we have had!
The week began when we went to forest school. As we walked across the playground we could see some smoke and ass we got closer we could also see Mrs Morrison. 'Maybe there is a fire?' the children asked. By the time we got to forest school, there was no fire but there was still some smoke. The children thought of ideas of what could have happened. When we got back to the classroom, the children could not stop talking about fire. We wrote down everything that we already knew about fire and what we would like to find out. The children said they would like to find out how to build a fire, how to keep safe around fire and also see a real fire. This began a week of activities following the childrens interests. The children amazed me with their enthusiasm! On Tuesday we learnt about how to keep safe around fire by introducing the fire circle rules. On Wednesday we learnt about the fire triangle, the three things you must have to build a fire. We even conducted an experiment to test this out using a birthday candle. Later in the day the children suggested we should take some snacks with us when we build our own fire, all afternoon the children wrote their own shopping lists of what they would like to take. On Thursday we went to forest school. Mr Williams taught us how to create a spark using the flints, which we all got to have a go of. Once we got the fire going, we each took it in turns to toast marshmallows. They were yummy!
