Following the successful introduction of our 'Whole School Listening and Responding' initiative and due to all your enthusiasm, I will now be posting the weekly pieces on this blog, so that you can easily access the pieces from home and also interact in the comments if you wish. Parents and carers- I introduced the whole school listening initiative back in October with the idea that all classes from EYFS up to Year 6 would listen to the same piece of music each week and respond to it in a variety of ways, including some of the following; discussing the weekly questions, drawing a picture about the music, devising a movement to fit it and many other activities that children and teachers have come up with . The initiative aims to embed music into our everyday school culture, boost well-being, bolster general knowledge around music and expose our children to a wide variety of pieces from the musical canon, covering a range of styles. Without further ado, this week's piece is : 'Badinerie' Composed by : Johann Sebastian Bach From: Orchestral Suite No 2 (final movement) Date: 1738-39 Youtube: https://safeYouTube.net/w/Mmm0 Classical 100 (requires login) : https://www.classical100.org/#/piece/2/badinerie Listen out for the flute, it plays the lead and requires a very skilled flautist ,due to the quick pace and difficulty of this piece. Discussion Points:
Let me know your responses in the comments and any other ideas you have about this piece. Happy listening! Miss Rigby x

We liked this piece of music because it is very energetic and made us feel happy. We think the flute sounds lovely.

We really liked this piece of music. We were able to name the flute when we heard it being played. We also liked to dance around to this music with a partner.

In Nursery , we listened to this piece at the end of our Music lesson and noticed the fast tempo section (we have been practicing playing fast and slow) . We pretended to play the different instrument, the flute and violin are interesting because you hold them to the side, not in front of you.
