Curriculum Intent
Our Curriculum At Wilbraham Primary School, we aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum which is research informed and evidence based. We have high expectations and ambition for all pupils, irrespective of their starting points, and ensure that they reach their full learning potential. We aim to deliver the statutory curriculum and other statutory guidance in an engaging way. Skills and knowledge are taught in a systematic and progressive way to enable pupils to build on prior knowledge and build up the resilience to use those skills and knowledge in the future. We teach in a subject-specific way and make cross-curricular links to ensure that skills and knowledge are transferable. Our curriculum reflects our wider school population and context. We use a wide variety of educational trips and visits to enhance the children’s learning. The impact of our curriculum is monitored regularly. We use different examples of retrieval practices to enhance learning and memory. We deliver all aspects of the curriculum using a metacognitive approach. Pupils are taught to develop their long-term memory and, in turn, develop their own self-regulation strategies which enable them to become lifelong independent and active learners.
