We have had such a super week finding things out about our country Switzerland. We took part in some chocolate tasting - which was rather delicious!!!!!
We competed in a range of sports activities including a penalty shoot out, running race, egg and spoon, hurdles and a brilliant tug of war.
As a class we won the penalty shoot out!!!!! woohoo!!!
British Science week - 12th-16th March
We have had such an exciting week taking part in Science week. We started the week with an assembly telling us about all the exciting activities that would be happening across the week. We watched a couple of experiments in the assembly as well and talked about what amazing things scientists do.
The year 5 and 6 Science leaders came to our class and demonstrated four different experiments.
We watched them power a watch using a lemon!
We discovered that different liquids have different densities.
We watched liquids change colour when they are mixed.
We did lots of our own experiments this week.
We dropped mentos into a bottle of diet coke and watched it explode up into the sky!
We had a plate full of milk and dropped food colouring into each corner and then carefully dropped some washing up liquid into the middle of the plate. We watched the colours start dancing across the plate and mixing together by themselves.
What experiments can you do at home? Share with us what you got up to.
Last week we spent some time talking about all of the special people in our lives. We talked about why Mother's day is celebrated and what we loved about our mums. We talked about how every family is different and shared who was in our family with our friends. We enjoyed listening to a story about a little girl who has two mums...
We decided that our mums do a very good job of looking after us and we needed to thank them for everything they do for us. Our class were so good at thinking of ways to say thank you to our mums - giving them hugs and kisses, tidying up for them and making them a card!
We hope all of the mums liked their cards and had a very relaxing Mother's day on Sunday!
We have been working on estimating in our maths sessions. We had a go at this a few weeks ago but found it really tricky so we have played lots of fun games that has helped us get better at estimating. We had to learn how to make a sensible guess!
Miss Newton flashed us a 10 frame that was part filled in with some counters. We only got to look at it for 2 seconds then had to estimate how many counters we saw. We had to make our own ten frames look identical to the one we saw on the board. It was difficult at first but we got so much better at it!
We also worked in groups to estimate how many cubes we could see on the tray. We only got to look at the tray for 2 seconds again before we had to make our tray look the same. We had to check our estimates by counting. Our teamwork was super!
As well as learning how to estimate, we have also been working really hard on our counting skills. We have been counting groups of objects in different ways. We lined up our objects and counted them starting from the left to the right, then right to left, then from the middle and finally, in a random order. We have learnt that it doesn’t matter where we start a count, the number will always be the same! Here we are practising our counting skills...
We had a super first day back last Monday...we went on our trip to Chester Zoo! Everyone was so excited, including the grown ups! We couldn't wait for our new topic all about Zoo animals and going to see the animals for ourselves was a great way to start it off...
We have had another busy week this week getting engrossed in our topic of under the sea. We worked hard all week making some work for our whole school display. Our display is up in the 3/4 stairwell we use to get to the ICT suite. Lucky us, we get to see our gorgeous work every Friday.
This week we have been trying really hard to collect our three key jobs. Each week there are three jobs that we have to try and do independently to collect a key on our board. This week the jobs were -
- To draw/make a fish or sea creature
- To play with a new friend
- To make a model in the construction are and tell an adult about it
Look at how we did -
A lovely week this week apart from the miserable weather!
Well done to everyone who remembered their PE kits this week for outdoor games and gymnastics.
We have carried on with our daily run/jog around the field and everyone seems to be enjoying it. We have certainly been noticing how hard and fast our heart has been pumping after we finish.
Our trip letters went out this week. We are very excited to be going on two trips this term to help us with our topic of animals.
Friday 2nd February
Monday 26th February
If you would like to help on either of these trips just let one us know
Wow! What a super busy first week back we have had.
We started our Gymnastics sessions this week. They are on a Thursday morning. Please ensure a PE kit is in school all week for your child.
We had another first this week - our Anchor sessions started with the amazing George. We learnt some new phonic songs about the letter names and sounds. It was so much fun.
We have been busy practising for our Nativity this week getting ready for our parents and carers coming to watch next week.
Our Nativity is on Tuesday at 2.15pm and Thursday at 9.15am everyone is welcome to come along and watch.
Look at our super number work we have been doing this week. We have been exploring different numbers and ways to represent them.
Last week was anti bullying week. RN spent a lot of time thinking about how to STOP bullying. We talked about what bullying was - hurting someone else...
We thought really hard about all of the kind things we could do for one another to make our school a bully free place! During circle time we took it in turns to roll a ball of string to someone, telling them why we thought they were a "good friend". We made a friendship web! Take a look...
