The children and adults of Wilbraham were given the amazing opportunity to see and learn about Humboldt penguins. We had 4 lively feathered friends join us in the new hall, along with two zoo keepers who were able to tell us some amazing facts such as:
The Humboldt penguin originates from Chile.
They don't have any feathers around their beaks.
Humbolt's eat small silver fish.
They have a special oil on their skin to keep their feathers waterproof.
On Friday 19th May, Wilbraham celebrated the wedding of HRH Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle. Throughout the week, Year 4 had been implementing all things wedding in Maths, English and Topic lessons. We designed and created wedding hats in Art and Design Technology, created a TV News Report in Literacy and solved a variety of wedding related problems in Maths. On Friday morning, we had our own 'wedding' courtesy of 4B, and in the afternoon we were able to go outside in the sunshine whilst enjoying the inflatable assault course and games school had provided us. It was a great day at Wilbraham!
For Sport Relief this year, the whole school took part in a variety of sport/fitness sessions. Each class were given their own pedometer and were challenged to make as many steps as they could. Different children wore the pedometer and 4S managed to walk more than 50,000 steps in just one week!! We were also challenged to complete a stepathon, each class had to do as many steps possible in 15 minutes. Take a look at the pictures of our amazing efforts.
4S have been participating in sport sessions with Mr Jones. Mr Jones has been showing all of Year 4 the fundamentals of cricket. They had a great time batting and fielding, as well as learning the rules and working as a team.
To celebrate the end of our first term in Year 4, Wilbraham children picked a class song, created a routine and rehearsed, rehearsed, rehearsed! 4S were the last class to take to the stage and all of our hard work paid off as we WON!! It was a fantastic day and I'm so proud of each and every member of 4S!
Towards the end of the week, we have been editing our literacy work. 4S are putting in a great effort to improve their writing, focusing on Year 4 writing features such as fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases and a variety of punctuation.
In literacy this week, we have concentrated on writing from a different point of view as well as change the ending of a story. We have linked our Ancient Greeks topic with literacy and produced some fantastic 'Odysseus and the Cyclops' written work.
We began our week planning the characters, setting, beginning, middle and end using different adjectives to create expanded noun phrases. We then wrote and edited our first draft with the help of working partners.
I have read your final drafts and I am so impressed with the quality of your work and how much effort you have put in!
We had a fantastic day celebrating and raising money for Children in Need. It was great to see so many children dressed up and supporting a great charity.
We have had a fantastic start to the week. Well done to Rahma, Mia, Poppy and Iqlas for competing in the football tournament, you did us all proud!
