Today we were very lucky as we had a real life author come to visit us. Kate Cunningham has written a story based on the Great Fire of London. Her book is called 'Vlad and the Great Fire of London'.
We really enjoyed listening to her read her book and we learnt some interesting facts about the Great Fire.
Then we pretended we were helping to put the fire out. Where did the water come from? How did they get the water to the fire to put it out?
We got into groups and discussed what we might have seen or heard if we were there at the time of the fire.
Then Kate showed us some real coins that she has. The coins were very delicate so we had to be very careful when we handled them.
At the end of the day, Kate talked to us about her job as an author and how she writes her books. Would you like to be an author when you grow up?
This week we are carrying on with our work on subtraction in numeracy.
You can help your child by encouraging them to count backwards. Pick a number between 21-30 and see if your child can count backwards to 0. Then pick a number between 31 - 40.
Some children may need a numberline or a 100 square as a visual prompt.
Last week we were learning that the j sound for jam, jar and jeep can be spelt with the letter g.
The j sound is spelt with a 'g' before the letters e, i or y. For example.
magic gem giraffe giant energy gentle
The j sound is spelt with a 'ge' at the end of words.
large cage charge orange huge fringe
Have a go at spelling some of these words at home. Can you use them in a silly sentence?
On a trip to the zoo I saw cheeky monkeys, a tall giraffe and a large, orange tiger.
When Jack reached the top of the beanstalk he saw a large castle belonging to a giant.
2S have been very busy learning how to add multiples of 10 to 2 two digit numbers. We used bead strings, 100 squares and drawing numberlines.
Then we moved onto adding two 2 digit numbers.
Can you have a go at adding these numbers?
13+14 24+15 34+23 62+45
Here is a snapshot of some of the art and writing we were doing today.
Some children will make excellent architects in the future if they put their minds to it!!
More to come on Monday when our author visits to tell us about the Fire!
