In literacy we have been introduced to a new book - The Tunnel.
Have a look at the front cover. What might the story be about? Class 2S have been playing detective and writing some questions on what might happen in the story.
Take a look at some of our fantastic questions.
I can't wait to start reading The Tunnel.
This term in year 2 we are very lucky to be taking part in some football training. Every Wednesday afternoon we go out onto the astroturf to work with a football coach from Manchester City Football Club.
Have a look at what we have been up to.
This week in gymnastics we have been practicing lots of different movements for our floor warm ups.
As part of our warm up we have been learning how to perform a teddy roll, a log roll and a tuck roll. We have been jumping in different ways and learning how to make different shapes with our bodies. We have also been performing 'weight on hands'. This is when we have our body weight on our hands, such as handstands and cartwheels.
Have a look at some of our photos. It can be a bit tricky taking photos when everyone is moving about but Ms Stapleton did try her best!
Your child/children will take part in PE
lessons EVERY week.
Children need to bring their PE kit to school on Monday. They can leave it in school all week and take it home on Friday.
Supertato's work is never done! There are always vegetables to rescue. Here are our Supertatoes all ready for action. No-one knows where they will be needed next. It could be your house. Let us know if there is any action around the kitchen or beyond this weekend.
This week in numeracy we will be carrying on with our counting. We are counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
Remember it's really important to count backwards too. Counting backwards will really help us with our subtraction strategies later on.
We are also learning about place value. To help us understand place value we are using lots of different equipment. Here are some pictures of us using all the different equipment. Which one do you like best? Do you prefer the base 10 or beadstrings? Can you work out what 2 digit numbers we have made?
Here is a link to game for you to practice your understanding of place value.
We all had a session in the Forest School site on our field. We were learning how to make shelters for when it rains. The first thing we have to learn is the Timber Hitch (a knot).
This is a knot that will help us when we need to make a temporary shelter with tarpaulins.
It is not as easy as it looks as we found out when we all had a go.
It really helps if you work with someone!!
This week we have been thinking about our own aspirations. Can you remember what the word 'aspiration' means?
You're never too young to have aspirations. In class we talked about the things we are good at, things we want to improve, things we are looking forward to and what we want to be when we grow up.
In year 2 we have children that want to be scientists, doctors, nurses, zoo keepers, make-up artists, police officers, shop keepers, footballers and singers.
What wonderful aspirations they have!
Work hard and always follow your dreams.
This week in numeracy we have been reading and writing two digit numbers in words and figures. We played lots of different games.
Here we are working with a partner. 1 person had to cover some numbers on the 100 square and their partner had to work out which ones were covered.
We had some 100 squares that had been cut up and we had to put them back together.
We have been reading a two digit number as a word and then writing the numeral.
We have been learning how to make different two digit numbers from just 4 single digit numbers.
People have been sharing the contents of their holiday bags and albums. We have enjoyed listening to all the different things 2S have been up to and hearing about all the places that have been visited. What an exciting summer we had! From palaces to zoos, theme parks to local playgrounds we have had lots to talk about in the first week of our new class. Here are some of the photos of our bags.
In Key Stage 1, PE is a statutory part of the curriculum. Your child will take part in gymnastic, dance and outdoor games lessons every week.
We ask that children bring their PE kit to school every Monday. Leave it in school all week then take it home on Friday.
Welcome back. We hope you had a lovely Summer holiday and are ready for lots of exciting learning in year 2.
Ms Stapleton will be teaching 2S on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday and Mr Williams will be teaching on Thursday and Friday.
The first week back is very busy. There are lots of new things to talk about and new friends to get to know.
We have been getting to know our new friends in our class. We went into the hall to play some games.
We have been getting to know all about our new friends. Look at our lovely pictures we have drawn.
