Can you tell your family what we've been doing today?
Do you know the 5 parts to the story?
We decided that Rose ( the character from our story) has an active imagination and that the sinister creatures she saw in the wood might have been her mind playing tricks on her. We decided to make some dream catchers so that when she goes to bed all the creepy, scary things she was worried about don't stop her from sleeping.
Making the dream catchers required lots of team work, concentration and patience.
On Friday, we put on our wellies and went outside to explore the Forest School area. We pretended that we were the girl from the story, The Tunnel! We imagined how she felt going through the dark, creepy wood. Then we explored the forest area to find lots of adjectives to describe the appearance of things in the forest. Some of the words we found were words we have never used before, like eerie, sinister and gloomy.
Ms Lindsay taught us how to make expanded noun phrases using the cards we found. We made lots of different expanded noun phrases with our word cards.
Could you write, in the comments, your favourite new adjective or could you write an expanded noun phrase?
This afternoon we went into the hall and thought about the dilemma that the girl faces in our story, ' The Tunnel'.
We decided to make noises with our voices that we might hear inside a tunnel.... dripping noises, spooky ghostly sounds, tapping noises. Then, we introduced some instruments and used them to make different sounds too. It was rather noisy and loud in the hall!
Afterwards, we couldn't believe it when Mr Williams told us he had found a tunnel in the corridor! We had a dilemma.... do we go through it or not? All the Year 2 children were very brave and fearless, and crept through the tunnel whilst others made noises outside.
We got a real feeling for what it might've been like for the two characters in our story to enter the dark, mysterious tunnel .
What an exciting day we had in 2L ! Today, two Paramedics came into school to tell us all about their job and to answer our questions. We found out why paramedics are real heroes! They save so many people lives and help people when they are in need. We had the opportunity to get inside the ambulance and to see some of the equipment that they use in an emergency. We got to put on special gloves , have our heart rate checked and sit in the bed! We even got to go on the lift at the back! What a great day we had!
We have been reading the story 'The Tunnel' by Anthony Browne. We then acted out scenes from the book and thought about how the characters might be feeling and what they might be saying.
Look at these Gymnasts!
We are becoming confident using the equipment and travelling on it in different ways. We have been trying to hold a balance and thinking about how we hold our bodies whilst moving! No slouching in this class!
