All week, everyone in 1B has been so enthusiastic about Sport Relief, with lots of children and parents attending the morning fitness classes, purchasing wristbands and all children running a mile a day! On Friday we celebrated Sport Relief, by all wearing our favourite sporty clothes to school with a donation for charity. We also took part in a Stepathon challenge - some children did over 400 steps in just 15 minutes! Wow! Thank you and well done to everyone for taking part and donating to Sport Relief - 1B raised over £20!
1B are so proud of Nathaniel, as he won Mrs Morrison's Science Selfie competition! Nathaniel also won the prize for being Scientist of the week, for all of his super work and enthusiasm both in school and at home. Nathaniel created a very special volcano, as Nathaniel’s dad is from the volcanic island of Monsterrat which is why he chose this experiment. It was amazing! Well done Nathaniel!
What a fantastic Science Week we have had in 1B! It all started with a super assembly led by Mrs Morrison and Ms Toft, telling us all about the special theme for the week and all of the brilliant competitions we were going to take part in.
In the afternoon, we had some brilliant Year 6 scientists to come in and show us some experiments - one was very smelly!
Enjoy all of our science pics from our adventures this week! Miss B xx
As a class we also went outdoors on a Mini-beast Hunt, we observed lots of different habitats and we asked lots of questions and considered why Mini-beasts all have different homes.
We also explored water and ice this week, we hid some objects inside ice and discovered lots of different ways to get our lovely objects back! We asked lots of questions and tested our theories before choosing our winning method.
We also made cornflower slime and explored how we can make it change from a solid to a liquid. Children also had an exciting race using paper and plastic bottles by controlling how much air was needed to push the paper to the finish line. Well done 1B!
Check out our science week posters! They were all fantastic, I can't wait for Mrs Morrison to choose a winner...
This Thursday it was WORLD BOOK DAY 2018! 1B had such a fantastic day dressing up and reading books. We had a brand new bugtacular book to read called 'Du Iz Tak?' which is all written in bug language...
In this bugtacular book, we learned how to plant seeds, make spider webs and even make up our own bug language. Enjoy all our fantastic photos of our special day. Big thank you for all of the brilliant costumes to make our day even more special.
Making spider webs...
You all looked amazing!
It is now half way through our school year at Wilbraham and that means that it is time for our mid-year school councillor elections! 1B wanted to say a massive thank you to Zunaira, who has been a brilliant and enthusiastic school councillor so far this year. 1B chose 5 children to run for the school council elections; Summer, Malak, Taijo, Jai and Mirela. After a close vote, 1B decided that their new school councillor is... Summer!
Well done to all of 1B taking part in the vote! Enjoy this exciting video of our class vote...
1B have created some fantastic pieces of artwork, both at home and in school all about our topic Eric Carle. Here are just a few of the exciting masterpieces!
Year 1 has a brand new and exciting topic for this half term... ERIC CARLE!
So far we have looked at many of his beautiful stories and we have even got to know a lot about Eric Carle himself. Year 1 have selected their favourite stories by Eric Carle and have produced some fantastic writing too - we have some brilliant writers in 1B just like Eric!
1B are already back in the swing of a new term and ready to try our best in 2018! We have had a brilliant start to the year at Wilbraham, by working with the School Council to keep our class fit, healthy and happy. School Council has launched a brilliant competition with amazing prizes, in which every class in Wilbraham Primary should be running, jogging or walking a mile a day. 1B love taking part in this competition and we are trying our best to do it every single day! Keep it up 1B! Here is a video all about the importance of staying active and the benefits that our mile a day will have on the children at Wilbraham...
Happy New Year 1B! We are now in a brand new year called 2018. I hope you have all had a lovely Christmas break and that you are all ready and excited to come back to school on Monday 8th January 2018.
Our Christmas Party!
To get into the Christmas spirit, 1B put on their best party clothes and dancing shoes ready for a Christmas Party! We even had a special visit from Santa, who gave every one in 1B a special gift for being so amazing. A MASSIVE thank you to everyone who brought something in for the class to eat to make our celebrations even more special! We had so many delicious treats - it was brilliant!
Stay and be Festive!
A massive thank you to all the parents and carers who came to 1B's stay and be festive morning this week.
Myself and Miss Barlow loved seeing you all making fantastic Christmas crafts together!
What a fabulous morning!
This week was our singing square competition! I am so proud of 1B, everyone sang beautifully, with a great big smile on their faces. Our actions were fantastic and you were all super stars! Unfortunately we were not the winners - but we were just so happy to take part. Well done to 1C and 2L for their winning songs.

We had a super exciting day in Year 1 this week! On Thursday, we became palaeontologists, exploring real dinosaur fossils with the help of Adam. We learned so much, we now understand what a fossil is and why they are so important. Adam knew so many interesting facts about dinosaurs and 1B listened amazingly in groups to learn about them too!
Guess who we met...
After our exciting morning spent fossil hunting, we then had our lunch ready for the afternoon. Adam was so kind, he let us meet a baby Velociraptor and even Sophie a big T-Rex! 1B were all so brave and were very kind to Sophie. I was so impressed with the children who had questions ready to ask Adam and Sophie!
Both of our dinosaur friends were lovely to children, but were sometimes cheeky to teachers!
A special letter...
The next day we found a special video from Adam, telling us that Sophie had left a surprise in our classroom! It was a letter! Can you guess where Sophie hid her letter to 1B by listening to Adams clues?
After a quick check of 1B's super night time camera, we were convinced that a dinosaur had been into our classroom! We quickly left the classroom and went to find the special dinosaur! In groups we planned what to look for in the forest, that would prove to us what kind of dinosaur had been in our school! We decided to look for any feathers on the floor, any more footprints and weather the leaves had been eaten or not. As this would tell us if the dinosaur was a herbivore or a carnivore.
In our exciting dinosaur hunt, 1B found some fantastic clues that gave us lots of information to find out who our special visitor was!
Zunaira found a giant dinosaur tooth - so we knew it had ferocious teeth!
Aiza and Emile found scratch marks down the wood - so we knew it had sharp claws.
Summer found a lot of dinosaur poo - so we knew it had to be a big dinosaur!
Lots of children found dinosaur eggs and dinosaur slime.
1B also pointed out that all the leaves were left on the trees so we decided our dinosaur may not like to eat leaves - he may like to eat meat. Our visitor was a carnivore. Can you guess who it is yet?
After talking about our ideas in groups and reading lots of non-fiction information about dinosaurs, we discovered that our dinosaur visitor was a.....T-REX!
We now love our special pet dinosaur and he lives in our museum. 1B voted fairly for the name: Dobby!
This week 1B became super scientists and explored a range of materials. We talked about what a material is and so many children had such fantastic ideas! As a class we then discovered how we could distinguish between an object and the material from which it is made.
We found the word distinguish quite tricky to say and understand at first - but we kept practising and soon we remembered that it meant to tell the difference between things.
1B went on a material hunt around the room with a friend, and I was so impressed! I had no idea how many materials were around us all the time! Just like wood, plastic, metal, rock and glass! We then made sure that we could distinguish between the material from which the object is made and the object itself.
Mirela found a water bottle and she knew the material it was from was plastic. Go girl!
Can you find any different materials at home or in school? Come and let me know if you can!
Good luck! From Miss B. x
What an exciting week it has been in 1B! As a class, we have been working none stop thinking of lots of different and creative ways to promote anti-bullying. 1B have made it their mission to work as a team and be kind to everyone. Well done 1B!
It all started on Monday morning in assembly. By showing us how important it is to work as a team, Miss Toft challenged us to STOP bullying.
First, we had to understand what bullying was...
Then we began our mission to stop bullying by...
We began our mission by creating STOP posters as a class...
Teamwork in PE...
1B explored how important it is to work as a team during our PE sessions this week, as children had to work together in order to complete and win races. All of 1B worked really well together and enjoyed including everyone!
Girls and Boys...
This week also made 1B think about boys and girls being kind to one another. After reading a special story called My Princess Boy, 1B discussed how happy they are that the little boy could dress and play just how he wanted to! 1B voted together as a class that boys and girls should be able to do whatever they like! We sat in a special circle, listening to each person politely, sharing our own views.
We felt so inspired by this special book that in our ICT lesson we used our super computer skills to google image search pictures of girls and boys being whatever they want to be. We looked at boys who loved to dance, women fire fighters and even male nurses! 1B are so good on computers now!
After working so hard all week, 1B did not stop there! As a class the children decided to create a performance encouraging anti-bullying.
Our special performance shows 1B acting out unkind words to one child, that they have seen or heard on the playground. This is Several Times On Purpose, suddenly Lewis (playing our poor victim) Starts Telling Other People and suddenly all the noise goes away and children help Lewis and work as a team.
1B worked so hard on this performance and worked together as a team to create it. Everyone worked brilliantly. We hope you enjoy it!
Welcome back Year 1! I'm so pleased that you all had a lovely break, I really enjoyed hearing all of your stories.
This week we have been exploring bonfire night and Guy Fawkes! As a class we discovered the history behind this night and all of its fantastic traditions. On Friday we went to the astro pitch to see our very own fireworks display, which inspired us to make our own yummy sparklers to eat using sprinkles and lots of chocolate! Then we created some super firework art using chalk!
We hope you enjoy our poem about bonfire night too - I wonder who will still remember it on Monday!?
Have a super bonfire weekend and remember to be safe 1B!
Thank you to everyone in Years 1 and 2 who came to our spooky disco. You all looked spooktacular! We hope you enjoyed lots of singing, dancing and of course lots of biscuits! Have a wonderful half term Year 1!
