Our topic this half term is Julia Donaldson and all her stories. We have started by reading The Gruffalo. We have been so busy settling into our new Reception class. We've had lots of fun trying all the activities in our areas of learning, inside and outside, and we've been making new friends.
We have enjoyed some quiet reading time this week and have started our new Phonics sessions. We've been learning about animal habitats and have enjoyed sorting animals into the different places they live. In Maths we've been practising counting out a given number of objects from a larger set and matching numerals to a set of objects. We've also had our first Dance lesson with Mrs Shaw. We are practising taking our own shoes and socks/tights off and putting them back on.
Can we please take this opportunity to tell you that we have dance on Friday mornings. Children do not need a kit for this as they will take their socks and shoes off to do their dance session.
We were lucky enough to visit our new Forest school area on Thursday. We sat in the tipi and listened to The Gruffalo story then went out to look for the character's homes (using our imaginations). We then collected sticks, went back into the tipi and decorated them by winding wool around them. They looked great even though it was quite tricky to do!
Next week we will be looking at a new Julia Donaldson book. I wonder which one it will be? Which one is your favourite?
