We have now started our topic on 'Autumn' and are more or less following our full timetable.
In Literacy we have been reading the book 'Mouse House' by John Burningham.
The story is about a family who share their house with a family of mice. The Father phones the Mouse Catcher but the children warn the mice to run away. The mice go and live in the garden but when winter comes the children can't find them anywhere. One night, some time later, the boy sees another mouse in his house. This time he decides not to tell anybody.
The children have really enjoyed retelling the story with actions, sequencing the pictures from the story and making our very own mice. We carefully used the scissors to cut out a triangle and 2 circles to make our mice. They look fantastic on our class display.
Thank you to anyone who has brought in Autumn leaves and things they have found outside. The children have learned about conkers, fir cones, beech nuts and sycamore seeds. We have looked at the types of changes that happen in Autumn. This song is a favourite of ours and explains it really well.
We have also started our sports sessions with Manchester City and Manchester United football club. The teams are teaching us some football skills which also help with our gross motor and fine motor development.
In Maths we have been practising careful counting. We have counted up to 6 objects from the left to the right, the right to the left and from the centre. We have also been looking at patterns on a dice and trying to replicate them.
Next week we will be continuing looking at Autumn changes. We will be making our own version of the 'Mouse House' book and will be looking at subitizing in maths.
A very warm welcome to Reception! Your child will have now started their learning journey in class RG.
Each week I will post some work that the children have been doing and give you any information about upcoming events.
The children have settled remarkably well. They all seem happy to be at school and are enjoying exploring their new learning environment.
Here aresome photos of some of the things we have been doing:
We will be starting our topic 'Autumn' next week so please bring any Autumnal leaves, conkers etc that you might find. You might also email me some Autumnal photos of you enjoying Autumn walks. Email me at email@example.com
Please remember to send in your child's book bag with them every day. The reading book will be changed twice a week. We are awaiting stock of the blue book bags so use the plastic wallet provided as a temporary measure.
