On Monday RF embarked on a giant shape hunt all around the school. Our job was to spot all of the different shapes in the environment. We found so many wonderful shapes both inside and outside of the classroom. There were circles, triangles, oblongs, squares and even hexagons! It was a fantastic morning and we had lots of fun.
In celebration of anti bullying week Children throughout the entire school wore odd socks to spread the message that it is ok to be different.
We had a lovely morning talking about the different qualities and features that made us special unique individuals . We spoke about the things that made our friends special and ended our morning by passing on the smile.
On Tuesday Reception had a fabulous time on their class trip to the cinema. We took a coach to the Odeon cinema in Rochdale and settled down to watch the brilliant movie Ferdinand. We had lots of fun and the movie was really enjoyable.
Thank you to all of our parent helpers who came along.
Today we celebrated children in need. We spoke about why it is important to help others that are less fortunate than us. We helped make biscuits to sell to raise money for the worthy cause. We were allowed to dress in our own clothes for the day to help raise money. We also made some Pudsey badges which was soooooo much fun. In total our wonderful school raised over £1000. Thank you to all who donated. Were very grateful. Well done!!!
We love maths in RF and love to spend time in the maths area. This week we have been enjoying matching quantity to numerals. We used different numbered cars to math the numeral to different amounts of dots. We're all getting very good at it!!!
We are always so busy in reception. Learning is fun but very hard work. Here is some of the amazing things we have been doing in reception recently.
We love to read
We love to share books in reception. We have been talking a lot about the different characteristics of books and how we can use the pictures to help us read unfamiliar words. We have been practising using our phonetic knowledge to read simple sentences.
We have been reading the Gruffalo story this week and we absolutely love it! We came into school on Monday and there were footprints everywhere. We followed the footprints to the forest are where we found the Gruffalo story. We have been spending time recalling what happens in the story of the Gruffalo
We have had the most amazing week this week, learning all about Halloween and bonfire night. We read the book Room on a broom - written by Julia Donaldson. We really enjoyed reading this book and loved talking about the author, illustrator and characters. We Learnt about how to stay safe during bonfire night and completed lots of fun activities. Here are some pictures of us having lots and lots of fun!!!!
We made a magic with cat spit, witches snot and crushed bones. We talked about what might happen and then watched to see if our predictions were correct. It was so much fun and a little bit scary.
We had fun making pumpkin paintings. We used sponges instead of paint brushes and instead or orange we mixed yellow and red. Once we had mixed yellow and red we were surprised to see it had made orange.
We hope you have had the most amazing break and have had lots of fun. Were looking forward to lots of fun and exciting times ahead of us for the next term.
This term we will be starting off with the story ROOM ON A BROOM by Julia Donaldson. We are very excited about reading this story and can not wait to show you all the fun activities we do. This term our topic will be celebrations. This week were learning all about bonfire night. Check the blog on Friday to see all the fun things we do this week!
This term we also went to the local library for a story session. We really enjoyed listening to the different stories and joining in with the actions. We sang some songs and showed the librarians how amazing our singing is. We sang one of our class favorites 5 cheeky monkeys swinging through the trees.
After the session we were all given a book to take home and keep forever. The name of the book was the little monkey - written by Marta Altes.
We have been working hard on our maths development this term. We have been learning about the cardinal rule of counting. We have been working extremely hard learning about different ways to count up to six. Did you know that you can count pretty much anything? You can count counters, bricks, people or even claps. It is very important to follow the rules of counting.
You must count slowly, pointing at one object a time. It is also a good idea to line up the objects so you don't count any twice.
This term we have also been busy making some yummy chocolate conkers. We talked about what the words ‘recipe’ and ‘ingredients’ mean. We looked at the recipe and talked about what ingredients we need. Then we discussed the importance of hand washing.
The children had a go at making their chocolate conkers in small groups. Their first job was to wash their hands! Secondly they crushed the biscuits and mixed them with mascarpone. Next, they had to roll their mixture into a ball, ready to go in the fridge. We had so much fun doing this activity! The chocalate conkers tasted delicious!!!
