Join in with today's phonics session!
For your second well-being activity I want you to do something that makes you feel happy. I love to read books. It makes me feel relaxed and happy. I have attached some ideas below or you may like to think of your own activity. You can do one activity or as many as you like.
Have a happy day and remember to send some photos or tell me about what you did.
Good morning Reception. Today is Well-being Wednesday. Well-being is all about being happy and healthy. It is important our body is healthy but is also important that our mind is healthy and happy. Today's' activities will help you to have a healthy mind and hopefully make you feel happy.
I've attached the first activity below. The superhero in the picture is called 'Cyber Sense'. Her superpower is that she can use her senses to help practise`being mindful. You can do the activity inside or outside but it must be quiet so you can focus your mind.
After doing the activity you could draw or write about the things you could see, hear, feel, smell and taste. How did they make you feel?
I have a attached a link to a cosmic yoga session. All you need to do is watch it do what the lady in the video does.
Yoga is really good for keeping fit. It also helps to calm you down and relax. There are lots of other 'Cosmic Yoga' videos on YouTube if you would like to do some more.
Today we will be looking at a poem from the book 'Zim Zam Zoom' by James Carter and Nicola Colton. The poem is called 'Funny Faces'. Before you read the poem here are some things to think about and do.
* What is a poem? Find out with a grown up?
* Look at the poem - attached below. What do you think it is about? How do you know?
* Can you point to the beginning of the poem?
* Can you point to the end of the poem?
* Can you see a question mark in the poem? How many can you count?
Now you can watch the video of me reading the poem or get someone to read it to you if the video isn't working.
*Can you join in with the poem?
*Did you enjoy the poem? What was your favourite part? Why?
*Can you pull a funny face?
* Get someone to take a photo of you. You could write a new line for the poem to go with it if you would like to. Use the words from the poem to help you e.g 'Can you do.......'.
Do you remember in the story 'Supertato - Veggies in the Valley of Doom' when Supertato and the veggies got stuck in the quicksand? Who helped get them out? What is quicksand? Maybe you could find out with your grown-up.
Today's activity is to do an experiment. We are going to make our own quicksand! You will need: 3 cups of cornflour, 1-2 cups of water, a bowl and some small toys (that can be washed afterwards) of different sizes and weights. It will be messy so do outside or somewhere that can easily be cleaned up afterwards.
Mix the cornflour and water thoroughly in the container to make your own instant quick sand. Use your hands to do this and talk about how it feels when it is a powder and how it changes when you add the water.
Grab handfuls of the mixture in your hands and watch as it turns into a liquid and drips back into the bowl.
Try putting different toys into the quicksand. Do they stay on the top or do they sink into the quicksand? Why do you think this is? Is it easy to get them out again? What happens if they sink all the way to the bottom?
Have fun feeling and experimenting with this amazing mixture. I have included a link to a YouTube video that shows the experiment for further instructions.
Most of all enjoy doing the experiment. If you can't get hold of cornflour you could experiment with water and toys to see which ones float and sink. Please let us know how you get on by leaving comments.
Your second activity today is a phonics challenge. I have attached a powerpoint presentation below with three reading challenges, each one get's trickier.
This is a chance to practise your tricky words and fred talk. Please let the children attempt to read the word and sentences in the boxes independently before helping!
Watch the video for today's first activity. If you cannot view the video, I have explained the activity below.
I want you to think about what you are good at. I want you to think of sensible answers, it might be that you are good at drawing or writing. Talk about it with your family.
I would like you to draw a picture of yourself as a superhero and write down all the things you are good at around your picture, these are your super powers and the things that make you special.
I have given you an example below!
