We were finding out all about how rocks are all different. They are different colours, shapes, sizes and lots more things. Some of our rocks floated, some of them sank, some of them were durable and some weren't. It was great fun!
We have been reading calligrams today. They are words or poems which are written in the shape of what they are describing. We chose our favourite to put into our books.
It is anti-bullying week this week. Today, we made our soundscape. Can you hear the 'bully' words? Can you hear the kind words?
We are learning to use dictionaries in 3w. Today we have been looking at the order the words are in. This is called alphabetical order. We sang the alphabet song. It reminded us of being in reception!!!
Here we are putting volcano vocabulary into alphabetical order. We are working in teams and helping each other.
Try this ...
We have been learning lots about volcanoes. Here we are putting information about volcanoes into groups.
Here we are singing our 'Staying alive' song all about the bones in our bodies.
Yesterday, 9 children from 3W headed off to visit our friends at Burtonwood School. It was such a lovely day. The sun was shining and everyone was very welcoming. Even a local cat came to see us!
When we arrived we went on a tour of the school. We were surprised at how small it was. There is only one class in each year! There are no stairs and they only have one hall. Their playground is different from ours too. They have a huge space, but they don't have as much play equipment as we do. We were also impressed with their swimming pool, even though it was empty.
We had some visitors today. 10 children came from Burtonwood School to look around our school and to get to know us. When they arrived it was playtime, so we went outside and they really liked our playground equipment. After that they had a look round the school. They couldn't believe how big our school is and how many stairs there are!
We then went into our new forest school area and tried to build shelters by tying a rope between two trees. It was hard and we needed to work in a team with our new friends. When we got our shelters up, we had a delicious hot chocolate and a biscuit. Then the fire alarm went off, so we had to evacuate to the Astro turf!!!!
We ate dinner with our visitors and had a great time outside at lunch and then it was time for them to go back to their school. We were very sad to see them go, but are really looking forward to visiting their school in November. We can't wait to find out how it is different from our school.
We have been trying to learn the countries of Europe. We know where Portugal is!!!!! 🇵🇹
we are going to have a quiz each week now until the end of term to see if we can all learn where each country is. A homework sheet will go home tomorrow. You don't need to bring this back to school. Keep it at home and practise every night!
A mysterious envelop arrived in class this morning. It was large and white and had 'our wilbraham friends' written on the front. We had to wait all day...right until story time...to open the envelope.
We opened the envelope and inside there was a letter for each of us from our friends at Burtonwood School. We were so excited! We can't wait to meet up next week.
We have been making skeletons with art straws today. We had to think carefully about where each of the bones go and then label them. It was messy and lots of fun!
We have been learning the names of the continents and oceans today. Here we are looking at maps of the world.
We have been reading a super story called The Iron Man. We got to a very exciting part and thought about what each character did and why they acted in that way. Can you guess which characters we are trying to be?
We are enjoying reading the story together.
Today we have been looking at different foods and sorting them onto a food pyramid. This helps us to understand how we can plan a balanced meal.
