In Science we have been learning all about materials. We have been using scientific language such as flexible/rigid, waterproof/absorbent, soft/hard etc.
We have looked at materials in the classroom and all around school and talked about how different materials are used for different purposes. For example, can you remember why we have a lot of plastic in the classroom? Why are windows made out of glass?
This week we had to discuss which material was the most suitable and least suitable for a superhero's cape. As a class we decided that plastic was the most suitable and paper was the least suitable.
Can you explain why?
We have been working SO hard on our writing this half-term and it's amazing to see the improvement in such a short space of time.
In Year 2 we do a combination of class writing (with the teacher leading), paired writing, group writing and lots of independent writing too. For the past few weeks we have been building up our letter writing skills so that we can write a letter to Steve the paramedic who came to see us.
Yesterday the children helped me write a shared letter. I needed a lot of help as I kept forgetting my capital letters! Today the children worked in groups of three to write their own letter. Later in the week the children are going to write their own letters before posting them to Steve. Have a look and let us know what you think.
Today at Stay and Read we were busy trying to get to grips with making 3D shapes. We used paper, straws and modelling equipment to help us. We became obsessed with them and spent most of the day trying to figure them out!!
The shapes we were learning are;
Cube, cuboid,sphere, cone, cylinder, square based pyramid, triangular prism and triangular based pyramid (also known as a tetrahedron). Here's some pictures of them - hope it helps!!
Here are some links to some websites about Mary Seacole. This will be needed in our ICT lessons. You can also look at them at home if you want to find out more about this wonderful and interesting woman.
Over the past few weeks we have been looking at Special Places in RE. We walked up Platt Lane to find places we thought were special in Fallowfield.
Back at school after writing about them we decided to make some of our own .
Look at all the different materials we used!!
We also made lots of different places. Mosques, churches, houses, fun fairs, museums, zoos, bedrooms, underwater worlds, boats and schools were amongst our ideas.
