In Year 2 we have been finding about Germs . We made posters to tell people what germs are, how they travel ( spread) and where they live! ( see pictures below)
Afterwards we carried out a simple experiment to show how easily germs spread.
We covered our hands in lotion and then put a pinch of glitter on our palms. We rubbed our hands together and we could see that the glitter was all over our hands. We then shook hands with our partner and we noticed that the glitter ( germs) went on their hands. We used our pencils and we noticed that the glitter went onto the pencils!! There was glitter everywhere!
Next we rubbed our hands with paper towels - some of the glitter came off but most of it was still there. We decided to get rid of the glitter we would need to wash our hands. Some people used soap and some people didn't. We observed that the people who didn't use soap still had lots of glitter on their hands.
Afterwards , we looked at each others hands to see if there was any glitter left. Some people had little bits of glitter left on their fingers and around their nails. This showed us that they didn't wash their hands properly.
This investigation taught us how quickly and easily germs spread. It also showed us that to get rid of germs we need to wash our hands with soapy water carefully.
