In 1S we have been learning all about 3D shapes.
We talked about the differences between 2D and 3D shapes. We sorted our shapes into 2 groups.
Do you know the names of these 3D shapes?
We used the clixi to build some 3D shapes.
Last week we were excited to use our 2 days in school to do some Science and Geography. We are amazing at naming different animal body parts, talking about how they are adapted to their surroundings and looking at the differences between animals. Here is some of our work from Science!
On Wednesday we packed our bags, grabbed our boarding passes and headed on a long journey through the UK! Take a look below to see what fun we had!
We are now really good at naming the 4 countries in the United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) and we can name some cities too!
In the afternoon we enjoyed some snacks and listened to some music from each of these countries! We had Scones with Cream and Jam for England, Shortbread for Scotland, Fruit Loaf for Wales and Potato Cakes for Ireland.
1S loved the Scones with jam and cream but some of us weren't sure about the potato cakes!
Have you ever been to Scotland, Wales or Ireland? What was your favourite part? Which was your favourite food?
It has been Science week at Wilbraham and to get into the swing of it we had a special guest: Generator John! He showed us some amazing science tricks like swinging a glass of water without spilling it and turning water into juice!
Here are our gummy bears the next day!
Which was your favourite experiment? Write a message to me below :)
What did Jack do that made mum cross?
For world book day we were left some clues and a special gift...
We tried to work out what this story was telling us. It had no words! We act our the story and learned how to do freeze frames in drama with Ed!
On Monday 6th February, 1S went on a trip to Fallowfield library. We have been learning about the author Eric Carle so we went to the library to find some of his books. The librarian was very helpful and told us that Eric Carle was born in America but his parents were originally from Germany.
Have a look at our visit.
Can you remember any other Eric Carle books? How many has he written? Which one is your favourite?
Have a look at this Eric Carle story online. It's called 'Do you want to be my friend?' What do you think the story is about?
In 1S we have been learning how to carry and set up the gymnastics' apparaptus safely.
We have been learning how to travel along the apparatus in different ways, how to perform different jumps and how to roll in different ways.
Please remember to bring your PE kit in every Monday.
Check back here to see what we have been learning about in our class :)
Topic and literacy in 1S
We are looking at the story Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs.
We are learning how to use time connectives and adjectives in our story writing!
Take a look at the video below to hear a different story about Harry taking his Dinosaurs to school!
Maths in 1S
We have been learning how to subtract with objects, using our fingers and by counting down in our heads!
During our music lessons we have looked at lots of different musical instruments and how they are played.
Have a listen to some of these children playing the glockenspiel!!! It's very impressive.
Can you name 5 different musical instruments?
We have been learning a hip-hop song called 'Hey You!' by Joanna Mangona. While listening to the song we had to listen for the pulse and describe the tempo.
Can you remember what pulse and tempo mean?
When we became confident at singing the different parts of the song, Ms Stapleton said we were ready to play the glockenspiel along with it.
Playing the glockenspiel is quite tricky but we tried really hard with our first attempt. Ms Stapleton said that we could even try playing along to 'Twinkle, Twinkle, little star'.
We only had time to practice the first line but Ms Stapleton was very impressed. Can you remember the notes on the first line of 'Twinkle, Twinkle, little star'?
