We have settled so well into our new class and have made lots of new friends. We are trying very hard to care, share and help each other, and are having lots of fun learning new things.
Our topic this half term is dinosaurs and we are really enjoying finding out so much about them. The book we are focusing on is called 'Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs'. In Year 1 we are starting to further develop our reading and writing skills. We love to write and we try to use spaces, capitals and full stops in our writing. Our teacher loves to see us using new words and we try to sound out new words by using our skills we learn in phonics.
We love talking about our learning and listening to our teacher and each other. Every day we have opportunities to share our learning with our classmates and to learn from them by listening to what they have done.
In Year 1 we are becoming much more confident in our mental maths. We are developing our ability to recall our number bonds to 10. In 1N we are fantastic at counting and we can count in 2s, 5s and 10s. We now know and understand many different words that mean addition, subtraction and equals.
In maths we enjoy taking part in practical learning activities. We use numicon and cuisenaire to help us with our addition and subtraction calculations. We can also decide ourselves if we want to use numicon, cuisenaire, multi-link or a number line to help us solve word problems.
1N love having Anchor sessions with Ed on Wednesday's. During this time we learn lot's which we use in our writing. We have been learning about conjuctions and time connectives. Check out the video we sing along too.
We have learnt all about our senses during the first half term. We really enjoyed exploring our five senses (sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell). In science we also learnt about all our different body parts and we are now able to label them.
1N had an amazing time visiting the Museum. There was so much to see and learn, from the real life animals to the bone crushing dinosaurs! Being explorers was really exciting, but our favourite part was seeing Stan the T-Rex.
In the Museum we saw real life reptiles and amphibians. The frogs were brightly coloured to warn us that they are deadly and poisonous!
Then we became paleontologists! We all worked together and found dinosaur fossils!
Thank you to all the parent volunteers who came with us on our trip!
Thank you for visiting our class blog.
