This week we have been thinking about day and night. We have sorted photos of day and night and looked at the types of activities we do at night and during the day.
We have also done lots of gross and fine motor activities inside and outside, including making our own gross motor course with chalk. We have been practising segmenting the sounds in cvc words in Literacy and in Maths we have been playing games involving 1,2 and 3. The Billy Goats Gruff game was our favourite.
We are amazed at how confident the children are becoming. Hopefully the photos will convey what a great time we are having and how much the children are progressing.
We have had another amazing week in class 1G. This week we have been focusing on:
Recognising and naming parts of the body
Looking closely at number 3. We have spotted 3 things without counting (subitizing), partitioned 3 in different ways such as 2 and 1, 1 and 1 and 1 and counted out 3 objects from a larger group.
We have been working on our large and small motor skills. We have done a movement disco, played with modelling dough and practised handwriting patterns whilst holding our pencil correctly.
And of course, we have had lots of fun playing together, taking turns and sharing the toys and resources.
We have also been practising recognising the sounds m,a,s,t,p,i,d and sounding out cvc words (such as mat, sad and pat) and blending the sounds together to make the word s-a-t = sat.
Your child will bring home a new reading book on Monday. Please read with them as often as you can and make sure their book bag is back in school every Friday.
Here are some of our photos:
This week we have been getting used to our class routine. We have been learning to say great each other at register time and how to sit nicely on the carpet ready to do good listening.
We have also been learning to name and place the features of the face in the correct place. We have been practising our fine motor control, taking turns, learning all about the number 2 and having lots of fun inside and outside. We have done lots of different sensory activities like feeling foam soap, slime, paint and spreading jam to make a sandwich.
Next week we will be learning about the number 3, learning to label the main parts of the body and lots more.
Here are some photos of our week.
Welcome to Class 1G. I am so proud of how the children have come back to school. They are amazing and really are a joy in these strange times!
We spent Thursday and Friday last week settling back into school life and getting to know each other and our new classroom. This week we are beginning to introduce some structure and routine into our day. We will be doing some short phonics and maths sessions in small groups. I will be assessing the children and setting them new targets and next steps in their learning. We will of course, be having lots of fun and I will upload some photos as the week goes on.
If you would like to ask me anything or share any information with me about your child, please email me
Other important information:
Starting next week, reading books will be sent home on a Monday. They must come back to school on a Friday each week. They will then be changed again the following Monday.
Children need to bring a water bottle to school each day. This must have their name on.
We are not doing a formal PE session at the moment but the children spend a lot of time outside. They therefore need sensible shoes or trainers to run and climb in. They also need a coat for if the weather is wet or cold.
I am looking forward to teaching your child and getting to know you all throughout the year
